Lets Get Real: What’s Your PM routine

unnamed.jpgWe hear it a lot- –  the phrase “me time”. Finding me time has become harder as my miss B has grown older. As a type A personality I’ve had to create rituals in my everyday life to find some sort of balance.

My evening ritual is something that I look forward to all day, it just helps me refocus my energy and power down for the day. Sounds silly maybe but it works for me.

Skincare: I’m a huge believer in taking off your makeup before hitting the sheets & a having a killer skincare routine– shocker. So I double cleanse off all my makeup, I have been doing this for awhile now and its just my thing– plus I incorporate my whole other skincare routine. For my hyper-pigmentation I’ve been using no BS. super clean & natural vitamin C, plus some must needed anti- aging retinol or a cleaner way to beat fine lines Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil , a dab of eye cream… the whole deal. AND wait can we please talk about Kopari Coconut Rose Toner. I have been using it for a month now and it’s my new best friends. It helps reduce my monstrous pores and balance my skin which I’m always looking for and it FREE of all the bad stuff: GMO’s, Sulfate, Cruelty and Paraben!

I’m also all about slipping into crisp, clean sheets- – which mean using my Slip pillowcase nightly… anti-aging, anti-sleep crease, anti-bed head! We spend a lot of of our lives sleeping so might as well make the most of it with the best pillow case.

There you have it, I want to know your PM routine because I’m always up for trying something new! Share in the comments

10 Tiny Changes To Make In 2018 For Better Health

Photos.pngIt’s time to jump onboard and make 2018 the year of HEALTH. As a nurse I’ve seen how the littlest changes can make a huge impact to someones overall health.

Just make slight adjustments to your daily routine, so small it doesn’t feel like your changing much is KEY. Over time those little changes add up to help me maintain better health, weight and sanity! So I want to share 10 tiny changes that I made in 2017 and a couple I’m trying out in 2018 to better my OVERALL health!

Swap out the sweet sugary coffee drinks for plain black coffee. Curbing my sweet tooth was HARD…. if you haven’t checked out how I curbed my sweet tooth post– you should. Don’t get me wrong I still indulge but only occasionally. Cutting out sugary coffee is a great place to start reducing your daily sugar intake!

+ Do nice things for people. Don’t always make everything about yourself, as a nurse I wish people would look around and help one another out a little more. People don’t give solely for the joy of giving anymore. If you get something in return, awesome, if you don’t, great.

+ Take a hard look at what your grocery cart looks like, how much of your cart contains sweet and processed. Finding a good balance of veggies, meats, fruits and a few boxed items within your grocery cart is a great start to a healthier 2018. Check out the staple items in our grocery cart for 2018

+ Pop a multivitamin. Recently I did a huge blood panel to look at my overall health (best decision ever) and found out that I was very deficient in Vitamin D, CoQ10 and Omegas. Nurse Whitney is here to tell you– being vitamin deficient can create so many problems. Like increased anxiety levels, poor gut health and issues with skin. So do your research and find a good multivitamin to take daily!

+ Have a mantra…mantras are so powerful. They allow us to feel present and think, as well as connect with ourselves.

+ Don’t skip breakfast. I get it mornings are chaotic but feeding your body the proper fuel is so important. IT gives you major brain power, energy and helps maintain your metabolism. Here is my favorite protein powder I’ve been using for awhile now and freaking love it.

+ Change what time you eat dinner. Studies show that it’s beneficial for fat loss to consume breakfast 90 mins later than your normal and dinner 90 minutes earlier. Just a little food for thought!

+ Laugh more, laughing is one of the best feelings in the world. It also lowers blood pressure, decreases stress hormones and can work those abs!

+ Drink More Water. My whole life I heard these two phrases, Everything in moderation… AND there is such a thing as… too much of a good thing. So in 2018 I’m making that GOOD thing water! I’m drinking more water and drinking wine in moderation, okay I am going to try with the whole wine thing!

+ Find self acceptance. It’s not bad to want to improve our health but while improving remember to always give yourself grace and acceptance. Change takes time!

Well there you have it friend. As a nurse I am here to tell you little changes in our daily lives can make a big IMPACT on our health in 2018.

Leave me a comment and let me know the tiny changes you want to make in 2018 to better your overall health!

Tips to Beat the Cold and Flu Season

Tips to Beat The Cold and Flu Season

It’s that time of the year again folks, when we all start feeling under the weather! When you have kids getting sick is unavoidable sometimes, so I want to share my sniffle season strategies on how to avoid getting sick. And I shared a few way to speed up your recovery and boost your immune system if your unlucky and get sick.

WASH YOUR HANDS: As a nurse I can tell you that washing your hands is the KEY to avoiding a cold and the flu. I can’t say it enough you must wash with soap, it doesn’t have to be fancy soap you just need soap! Wash your hands after meeting new people, or after running errands. If you can’t get to a sink to wash just whip out your hand sanitizer and use it when you’re around potentially germy surfaces or people!!!

LOAD UP ON VITAMIN C AND ZINC ( when appropriate): The 411 on Vitamin C and Zinc may surprise you. Mayo Clinc recently shared that Vitamin C doesn’t prevent colds, it will only shorten the duration of symptoms. It MAY benefit people who are at risk of colds due to frequent exposure like your kid being in daycare. When it comes to zinc again it helps treat- not prevent a cold. The studies say that popping zinc within 24 hours of the start of symptoms helps shorten your sniffle.

CHANGE YOUR EATING AND DRINKING PATTERNS: An overlooked but great way to fight a cold or flu is to eat foods that will help you build healthy cells you need to feel better. Increase your intake of protein like eggs, cashews, chicken or fish which lend a hand in helping to protect your body from billions of bacteria & viruses. Also put down the wine (say it isn’t so) and jump on the bandwagon of juicing, taking in immunity-enhancing nutrients daily will help to fight off the cold and flu.

EMBRACE THE OIL: We were all taught to cover our mouths when we cough or sneeze to prevent germs from becoming airborne. Research from Massachusetts Institute of Technology has found that droplets from a cough or sneeze can travel up to 200 times farther than previously thought. There are a variety of essential oils that have antibacterial and antiviral properties, fight those airborne germs and diffuse oils daily!

  • Thieves Essential Oil.
  • Peppermint Essential Oil
  • Lemon Essential OiEssential oils.jpg

Always remember if you’re really sick GO see a doctor! But the nice thing about these tips, they are super easy to implement throughout the year not just during cold and flu season!

Do you have any other tips for feeling better fast?

Share them in the comments.
