5 Best Self Tanners For A Natural Glow

IMG_3144.JPGAs an Arizona girl I am all about sunscreen or at least since being in my mid 20’s I have been all about sunscreen. The days of sitting out in the sun just to “SunTan” are over for me, who wants age spots and wrinkles for the rest of their life. NO ONE! I have been doing at-home-self tanners for years now and I think I have found a few that will get you that healthy-looking glow.

I have one tanner that is easy for travel situations, another that is pregnancy safe, two that build-able everyday lotions and lastly my ALL TIME FAVORITE tanning mousse. I have used all of these at one time and they are great in their own way!

Tan Towel: The TanTowel towelettes are infused with a clear self-tanning formula that goes on really easy with no mess (Just remember to wash you hands after applying). I throw a couple in my makeup bag while I’m traveling and reapply when I feel like that glow is disappearing.  They come in two sizes: Large for (full body) which is what I use all the time and regular size (half body) is for perfect for touching up your arms and legs. 5 full body towelettes cost $29.00, so I only buy them before we are headed on vacation (ON SALE now if you click the link )

NKD SKN Tan While I was pregnant I was very cautious (like most mamas) about what I used on my skin. But this product is 100% natural and odorless( it really is), a highly nourishing self tan mousse. It is 100% natural DHA and is free from perfumes, parabens/alcohol and it is infused with aloe vera, melon and lychee. It really is a great way to go if you want a nice tan while pregnant. The one thing I noticed about this product was the mousse didn’t apply as easy as other mousse tanners. I expected it to glide on and spread nicely but I really had to work to spread it all over. I felt like I used a lot more mousse than normal to make sure every inch of skin was covered evenly ($19.99 on Amazon…mitt not included).

Jergens Natural Glow 3 Days to Glow Moisturizer this is what I consider an affordable tan $9.99 per bottle and great if you like to build up to your preferred tan. It does take about the three days to get some nice color and it provides lots of moisture to your skin. I definitely make sure to rub this product in well because I have had a major streaking incident before.

Clarins Self Tanning Lotion has the most wonderful light scent, it is light weight and never has left my skin greasy or sticky. I never have had any streaks issues with Clarins but it does take a few days to build up that nice summer glow. I love this tanning lotion because no one would ever know that your wearing self tanner because it smells that good! It is a perfect choice for those who wish to maintain a year-round tanned appearance and smell delicious!

St. Tropez Self Tan Express Advanced Bronzing Mousse is my all time favorite tanner! The reason is I have had the most success with….no streaks…the tan stays on for about a 7-10 days…and I can control the depth of tan by how long I leave it on…1 hr = light sunkissed glow 2 hrs = medium golden tan 3 hrs = deep dark bronze. With any mousse tanner always remember to use a mitt and I like to wash my hands careful and blend in areas by my wrists, knees and elbows. The bottle is a little expensive but surprisingly will last you a long time.

FADE THOSE STRETCH MARKS for a week or so (see previous post on stretch marks). Self tanners definitely can help with hiding stretch marks. First, make sure to always exfoliate your skin before you apply any tanner, exfoliation and hydration are 2 of the 3 important tricks to hiding stretch marks. Trick #3 is to apply tanner as normal and then do some detail work by dipping a foundation/smaller brush into the self-tanning mousse painting over your stretch marks to give those white lines even more color. It takes a little more time but when done right can really help fade those stretch marks.

Let me know your favorite self tanners, I love trying outnew ones!

Happy Self Tanning!!

Boots No7 Stay Perfect Foundation 30ml .. is a new favorite foundation. My Target store here in So Cal actually has a rep in the store on Friday and Saturdays to color match you and answer any questions. It is a medium coverage and goes on so smooth and I love that it has SPF 15 in already in it… I am pretty fair unless I have tanner on so I use Cool Ivory.

Boots Botanics Facial Oil 0.84 Fl Oz / 25 Ml (Pack of 1)“>Botanics Nourishing facial oil 100% organic with Rosehip is one of the BEST finds ever. I have super dry skin and a lot of the times moisturizers are to heavy and clog my pores. This oil is hydrates and truly locks in moisture for hours, I use right it under my foundation and it also gives my face a smooth finish. It’s infused with Rosehip oil, which is rich in omegas and essential fatty acids, and let me tell you it smells amazing!

L’Oreal Paris Cosmetics Voluminous Primer Mascara, Primer, 0.24 Fluid Ounce“>L’Oréal Voluminous Lash Primer is my go to budget primer for my eyes. I will admit I love Christian Dior Diorshow Maximizer 3D Triple Volume Plumping Lash Primer, 0.33 Ounce“>Dior 3D Triple Volume lash primer and Mac False Lashes Maximizer – WHITE“>M·A·C False Lashes Maximizer. But for the price L’Oréal primer does the trick and it does it well!

L’Oreal Paris Cosmetics Infallible Paints Eyeliner, Black Party, 0.03 Fluid Ounce“>Infallible Paints Liquid Eyeliner goes on so smooth, smoother than any liquid eyeliner I have ever used. And it comes in multiple vibrant shades that are really fun to play with, definitely worth the $9.99.

4 Things To Help Avoid Stretch Marks While Pregnant

Unfortunately, there is no miracle cream that prevents stretch marks… BOO! Research is showing that genetics play a role in who gets stretch marks, also gaining lots of weight quickly or woman having twins/triples increase the chances because your belly has to stretch to accommodate those babies. When I found out I was pregnant with Blakely I knew that there was a good chance I would see some new stretch marks. I have a few stretches marks already on the sides of my thighs from having a HUGE growth spurt quickly from 7th-8th grade ( 5’6″- 5’11” over the Summer).  I immediately did some research on the best ways to prevent stretch marks while pregnant. I implemented these FOUR things into lifestyle and I am here to say I didn’t get ONE new stretch mark while pregnant.

  1. Moisturize I wouldn’t say I am the best at moisturizing daily, but staying moisturized while pregnant to helps alleviate any itchy skin (a symptom of stretch marks). I found that later in my pregnancy my skin felt tighter (obviously) and at times itchy. So I knew it was time to lather up my skin and I used a couple products depending on my nausea ( sometimes lotions made me nauseous) Bio-Oil Multiuse Skincare Oil, 4.2 fl oz + FREE Scunci Effortless Beauty Black Clips, 15 Count“>Bio Oil  is what I used most of my pregnancy, it has a mild smell and gave me lots of moisture. Another product I liked used is from Tummy Butter for Stretch Marks ~ Safe for Pregnancy – 8 oz.“>The Spoiled Mama, their Tummy Butter was my other go to product. Just really LATHER up your belly, thighs, breasts anywhere that you are gaining weight or stretching skin needs that moisture.
  2.  Eating Healthy I already have a pretty clean diet (besides the wine) but I knew going into pregnancy that I wanted to maintain that same diet and increase calories gradually as specified by my doctor (which was easy for me having Morning Sickness my whole pregnancy). As a nurse I know that amount of food a woman needs during pregnancy is dependent on a variety of things. ALOT of people find the topic of food and weight gain very touchy (myself included) but it is so important to face it head on with your doctor and come up with a plan for you. I believe because I gradually gained weight throughout my pregnancy I was able to keep those stretch marks away.
  3. HYRDATE This was the hardest one for me to stick too, especially going into my third trimester with that baby sitting on my bladder. But I did my best daily to drink 1-2 liters of water, again super hydrated skin is less likely to develop stretch marks.
  4. Workout My workout routine while pregnant also helped me to maintain that steady weight gain while pregnant. I will admit to you my doctor did have a “chat” with me to keep me in line when it came to working out. She told me that pregnancy exercise can vary from your routine before I was pregnant, while pregnant I needed to be aware of how hard I was pushing myself. She told me most exercises done prior to becoming pregnant are safe to continue during your pregnancy, but to be aware of my body (and any aches and pains) and how many calories I was burning. Overall, exercise is while pregnant is beneficial and can help with constipation, backaches as well as increase your mood and self esteem. Here is a link to some FREE online videos I used while pregnant.

I hope this information is beneficial or just a good reminder of things you can do while pregnant to better protect your beautiful skin!

June Beauty Budget Picks

Hello June!  I am a huge fan of trying new products especially super affordable products and because of that my makeup collection continues to grow and grow. Today I want to share with you some of my June Beauty budget picks, they are some of my favorites!

  1. L’Oréal Paris Infallible  This is my go to this Summer , its like lipstick and a gloss in one. L’Oreal created 14 high-impact colors that go on so smooth and it left lips super moist, I was shocked that the color stayed on for a few hours. I received this in a Instagram giveaway I won, and I liked it so much I went out and bought a few more!
  2. e.l.f. Long-Lasting Lustrous Eyeshadow, Soiree, 0.11 Ounce“>e.l.f. Long-Lasting Lustrous Eyeshadow, Soiree What a creamy light weight eye shadow, I was so surprised how gorgeous this color was on the lid. It has great pigment and not too much shimmer, and this pretty rusty pink color goes so well with Blue eyes.
  3. No 7.Match Made Bronzer in Golden Sand I will be the first to admit I am a bronzer snob. Because I am pale AF all year long and I constantly need to add some life back into my skin. It is so important to find the right formula that looks realistic and gives me that Summer glow year round. This No 7 is a great matte bronzer that really has NO orange tone, it is buildable and blends beautifully into the skin.
  4. Maybelline New York Volum’ Express The Falsies Push Up Drama Waterproof Mascara, Very Black 0.32 oz (Pack of 2)“>Maybelline Volum’ Express the Falsies  I was quite impressed with Maybelline’s Falsies mascara, again I have been using Chantecaille Faux Cils Mascara with Dior Maximizer Lash Plumper which gives me great length and volume. BUT that combo is pricey so I decided to keep the Dior plumper and add the Maybelline falsie mascara and I was surprised with the instant volume of my lashes.

Hope you all try some of these beauty budget picks out, if you do let me know what you think! And remember to Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Easy Overnight Beach Wave Tutorial

Processed with VSCO with a5 presetProcessed with VSCO with hb1 presetProcessed with VSCO with a5 preset
Happy Tuesday! I’m finally getting around to posting this Beach Wave Tutorial. As most of you know I have KLIX extensions in my hair( SEE PREVIOUS to learn more ), so I constantly have my hair curled just to make sure that it’s blended all the time ( and I just love the look ). To be honest I am not a fan of my hair being super straight, but I HATE having to use heat on my hair everyday.  So I often do this over night Beach Wave routine because there is no heat involved and guys its soooo easy, if I can do it anyone can.

So here we go… I simply take my wet hair and brush it out and divided it into 3 portioned sections.  I make sure that I don’t have it a part down the middle, I find that slicking it all back gives me more volume the next day. Then I do a simple braid... just the standard old fashion braid but I make sure it is done super tight. I have to admit I suck at braids so I have to do it over like 5 times but eventually it is tight and looks good. Make sure that you don’t braid to the very end of your hair, for those beach waves you want to leave a 1-2 inches out at the end for that really relaxed looked. Then sleep in it over night the next day, take out the braid and make sure you toss you hair around, but DON’T brush through it use your fingers or a wide tooth comb if needed. For the final touches I use Ouai Texturizing Hair Spray to give it that great volume and beach texture. I spray it at the root and then do what the fabulous Jen Atkin calls the “Butterfly Trick”, grab most of your hair on one side and spray and fan it out shake ( see her tricks here ). I then just make sure the top section of of my hair has the same texture and curl so I often spray a little Sachajuan Ocean Mist, 5 Ounce” Sachajuan Ocean Mist which gives texture for a “beach” look and feel ! This is so easy and truly will give you such great beach waves, try it out and let me know what you think!

May’s Beauty Budget Picks

I don’t know about you but I was not those girls in high school that had the best makeup and knew all the tricks. Thanks to Youtube I have been able to teach myself how to properly do my makeup. Youtube has also lead me to some great budget friendly brands that cannot be beat!

As someone who wants radiant, dewy skin I have found Maybelline Master Prime by Facestudio. It is a great primer that is lightweight and minimizes the appearance of pores but doesn’t clog. I wear it everyday under my foundation and it gives my face the perfect glow.

NYX is one of my favorite budget friendly brands, I love every product I have ever bought it never disappoints. The Perfect Filter shadow palette in Rustic Antique is my FAVORITE NYX product of all time. The palette includes 10 shadows are rust & orange neutral with a combination of matte, shimmer and metallic. I use these rust/ orange eye shadows daily and it is the quickest way to draw attention to my blue eyes, the warm colors makes my eyes stand out.

Milani Baked Blush is a beautiful pink blush with gold shimmer, it wears very similar to the popular NARS Orgasm blush but it is a steal of a deal at $7.49. It has nice pigmentation and you don’t need a lot of the product to achieve the perfect pink cheek.

Have a fabulous Tuesday babes!

Extensions 101

Gosh, I am beyond excited to share with you all my knowledge and love for extensions. This post is primarily going to focus on leave in “moveable” extensions and my favorite  brand is KLIX.  I know that “clip in ” extensions are super popular these days but I am NOT a fan. I personally don’t want to have to take them out and put them in each day. If I’m being honest, I don’t have the patience to try to place them correctly each day.  I’ve learned that if you purchase the right extensions (that are safe on your hair ) and they are placed correctly you won’t deal with all the common extensions complaints.

411 on Klix– I am a huge fan of klix because the application is so easy and safe. It takes about an hour to place them and 30-45 mins to move them up every 8 weeks ( I can go a little longer than most, my actual hair doesn’t grow fast).  Unlike glue in and individual beads there is no heat, no glue, no tape, and no removal chemicals leaving behind no breakage. I just had a new 22 inch set put in last week and I took photos of the process so you can see what the extensions look like and how easy the application is.   Disclaimer: My natural hair is so dark at the moment, But I used a duo color which has a highlight and lowlight color this helps blend everything perfectly! I am actually getting it colored  and lightened up today * see photo 4* and still again everything blends so nice!IMG_9395.JPGIMG_9400.JPGThe weft (undetectable and skin like) is attached to your hair with silicone lined micro-links that protect your hair and the skin like weft blends for a seamless application. With proper placement I am still able to pull my hair back in a ponytail or put in a braid, pretty much wear it any way (expect NO top knot). I have curled hair most days, I don’t wear my hair straight and I personally think (no matter what extensions you have) when you curl your hair it always blends better.IMG_9398.JPGI’ve been wearing extensions since I was 20 years old. I started out using individual bead extensions, it was crazy expensive, took tons of time and it was just so much hair. Over the last 10 years I have learned so many little tricks and found my favorite products that work great on extensions. With the right tools you should be able to brush your hair properly, still give your hair a great scrub/scratch and not create any matting. I’ll post my favorite products below and if you have any questions ask me in the comment section. Here are a few questions I get asked all the time.

  1. Do the beads hurt your head? The day I get them placed I would say my head is sore, just a little bit sore when I lay my head on my pillow. But other than that No… I don’t even notice they are in.
  2. Can you really brush you hair? Yes, I can! Obviously when you brush it is different but I can totally give my hair a good brushing. I have a favorite brush that is posted below.
  3.  Do you ever have any that slip out? NO.. Seriously with my Klix extensions I have never had an issue. Now… when I had the individuals beads extensions I did have them fall out, again that is why I love Klix 😦
